The following checklist is based on the state curriculum for Kindergarten.  I have taken the broadly stated curriculum and created this detailed checklist.  Please feel free to offer input on my curriculum checklist project.  Words in bold are basic music vocabulary.  For a complete list of all vocabulary assigned to each grade level, click here

Steady beat:

1. I can keep a steady beat with my hands and feet.

2. I can keep a steady beat with fast music.

3. I can keep a steady beat with slow music.

4. I can keep a steady beat when music changes.

5. I can keep a steady beat with an instrument.

6. I can tell when there's a beat or no beat.

 

Sounds:

1. I know where different kinds of sounds come from.

2. I can tell by listening where different sounds come from.

3. I know which instruments make:

          a. loud and soft sounds

          b. high and low sounds

          c. bright and dull sounds

          d. long and short sounds

4. I know the names of many classroom instruments.

 

Singing:

1. I can use my voice in different ways.

2. I can use my singing voice.

3. I can sing by myself.

4. I can match pitch.

5. I sit and stand tall when I sing.

6. I follow directions during singing.

7. I know how to watch for directions when I sing.

2. I can read a simply melody on the staff using Sol and Mi.
